Nama sebenar masjid ini ialah Masjid Sultan Suleiman Jamiur Rahman iaitu mengambil nama semperna nama Sultan Selangor yang ke-5, Sultan Aleiddin Shah (1898-1938) dan pernah menjadi Masjid Negeri Selangor. Dibina pada tahun 1932, batu asasnya telah diletakkan oleh DYMM Sultan Alauddin Suleiman Shah yang telah dihadiri oleh Sir Laurence Nunns Guillemard, Pesuruh Jaya Tinggi Negeri Melayu, Sir William Peel, Setiausaha Agong Tanah Melayu, Tuan J.Lornie, Residen British di Selangor dan dibuka rasmi oleh Sultan Negeri Selangor pada tahun 1934. 

The real name of this mosque is Masjid Sultan Suleiman Jamiur Rahman, which took the name of the 5th Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Aleiddin Shah (1898-1938) and was the Selangor State Mosque. Built in 1932, the foundation stones was laid by DYMM Sultan Alauddin Sulaiman Shah were attended by Sir Lawrence Nunns Guillemard, High Commissioner of the Federated Malay States, Sir Wiliam Peel, Secretary-General of Malaya, Mr. J.Lornie, The British Resident of Selangor was officially opened by the Sultan of Selangor in 1934.
